Artist Statement — Seen

Seen is an ongoing portrait project rooted in a simple but often overlooked truth: the people who hold society together are rarely the ones we stop to notice — the mail carrier on their route, the grocery store cashier, the construction workers who keep everything running.

To shift this, I paint their portraits and return to surprise them with the finished piece. What follows is often disbelief, laughter, or quiet gratitude. In that moment, something shifts — a person realizes they have truly been seen.

Seen is not just about portraits, but rather connection. It honors the humanity that surrounds us every day and creates moments that bring us back to one another.

This project is guided by a simple belief: Everyone deserves to be seen.
